While some ideas blossom from mistakes, other concepts emerge from planned and/or spontaneous design, still, other conceptualizations are a blend of several ideas, realized or not.  A few years after leaving college I created a new impasto alla prima painting technique, and began cultivating ideas for various projects (see Bio).
